Medical services

Many people are woefully unaware of what their car insurance policy does and does not cover. Even worse, some people may be unaware of thier right to property damage reimbursement, medical care coverage and compensation for their pain and suffering.
Under Florida law, every car owner is required to have an auto insurance policy that includes Personal Injury Protection, or "PIP" - to ensure that any damage or injury to human health is covered. Additionally, Florida is a "No Fault" state: This means that regardless of who was responsible for the accident, the insurance company will cover medical bills with the  mandatory minimum of $10,000. This type of insurance covers 80% of the first $ 10,000 of your medical payments, regardless of who caused the accident - be it you or the other party. By the same stipulation, 60% of any salary losses  you incur and up to $5,000 for funeral expenses are covered. Keep in mind that this coverage is only available if you seek help within 14 days of your accident! Even if you are not in immediate pain, you should still consult a doctor. Remember, you have up to $10,000 of coverage under insurance which you can use to pay for any medical care you receive, but ONLY if you have consulted a doctor within 14 days of the accident.
After a car accident, it's difficult to properly evaluate your own condition. Once the adrenaline wears off, you might feel fine; just a few bruises or scrapes. Should you go to a general practitioner, you may be written off with some over the counter medicine, the report will conclude that you're fine, and you'll be sent on your way. But far too often, the injuries recieved in a car accident will begin to hurt after a few days, but as you've already been examined and written off, insurance will not cover any further medical care. That is why it is paramount to be examined by a specialist who understands the mechanics and forces involved in a car crash, and what they do to the human body. As with any medical emergency, a mis-diagnosis could lead to complications down the line. A detailed examination and a thorough medical report will help you to both understand why you're in pain, and help convince the insurance company that your suffering warrants compensation.
